Description

Lauca is a small-lot coffee from the remote village of Lauca in Masma, Junín, Peru, a community of just three families where coffee growing is a recent development. This lot was grown by Samuel Muñoz and Raúl Ames on roughly one-hectare farms; cherries are pulped and fermented in open tanks for 36 hours before being washed, with a longer-than-usual drying time due to Jauja's warm, humid climate. Getting the coffee out is a genuine logistical challenge here, with producers even resorting to moving it by zipline.
